Coming home after a long day at school, work, or running errands should be a welcomed and relaxing experience. After several months of the same setting, it may start to get ordinary and not bring about a sense of being at home. Entering rooms that look the same for the entire year or two years is just as mundane as the daily grind. When that happens, it is time for a change.
Take One Room at a Time
Start in the most used room in the house. Some families may gather in the kitchen, living room, or finished basement that services as a game room. Rearrange the furniture, clean out clutter, alter the lighting, add throw rugs, and anything else that comes to mind. If the same lamps have been setting on the coffee table, for example, switch them out with other lamps in the house.
Move onto the kitchen and do the same things there. Get the whole family to help and voice ideas. Get creative and have some fun. The changes do not have to be drastic unless drastic is desired. Small changes will also make a significant difference in the appearance of a room. Continue this until the entire house looks new and fresh.
What to do with Rubbish?
A skip bin rental is an option. The company will drop off a bin that will be placed on the sidewalk or in the front yard until it is filled, or the project is completed. That will not be a welcoming sight to come home to, and the neighbors will probably agree. Consider same-day rubbish removal instead. There will be no bin taking up space, everything will be loaded into the truck by hand, and recycling will not get tossed into the landfill.
